The start of summer classes.

My name is Sarah Hutsell.  I grew up in Waverly, NE.  Once graduating high school I attended Dana College.  While it may have taken longer then I wanted, I graduated in December of 2007.  I taught for a year at the middle school in Central City, NE.  After a year there I decided that Central City might not be what I was looking for.  So, I moved to Kearney with Mike (my boyfriend) and signed a year long lease for our apartment.

Soon after signing our lease I got another teaching job in Scotia, NE.  The wonderful town of Scotia is 75 miles from Kearney and yes...I drive it everyday during the school year.  To the surprise of some, I actually sort of enjoy the drive.  Once you get outside of Kearney, the scenery is absolutely beautiful!  The drive has also gives me about an hour and fifteen minutes to make a mental to-do list for things at school, it also allows me to calm down on the way home if something has happened at school.  The down side to this is that there are creatures and critters that run across the roads.  These creatures and critters have resulted in the loss of a mirror on my previous car (Steve) and the loss of my previous car (Steve).  Yes, I name my cars :-)...driving that far everyday you build a relationship with some pretty odd things!

The reason for starting this blog?  I'm currently taking a class called Using Internet Resources.  This is a class that is part of required coursework for my masters!!!  When I had orginally graduated from Dana I wasn't ever really sure I wanted to go back to school.  Something must have gone off in my brain because, I'm back in school and excited to do so!

This is Mike and I on Christmas Day 2010 :-)

  1. I can relate to the driving! I drive 62 miles one way as well to go to work, and I also enjoy the drive...most days! It really does give me time to unwind on the way home from work, or prepare myself mentally on the way to work. However, the winter weather is the time that I do NOT enjoy the drive!

Like you, I also thought I couldn't get "back into" in taking classes, but here I am - four kids and a husband later - and I know that if I don't finish them now, I never will!

Your blog looks great - very easy to look at, the added pictures really help all of us put a face with a name. Additionally, your personal information lets us know more about you as well! Good luck with the class.

  3. Sarah,

Thanks for your comment on my blog. It is great to meet another Dana Alum. It is so sad that our beloved institution is no longer operating, as it was a great place and I certainly enjoyed my time there.

You certainly are a road warrior traveling sucha distance each day. I myself could not handle that commute, so I must commend you.

I wish you the best as you obtain your masters! :)

  4. Sarah,

I enjoyed reading your introduction! The way you wrote it gives us even more insight to your personality. I have a 40 minute commute to work. Not quite as long as yours but I also enjoy the think time it allows! I hope you enjoy your summer classes!

  5. It is nice of you to share your personal information. I have family that teaches in Waverly. She was the business teacher there and just retired this year. I also drive out of Kearney to teach each day. I don’t put on, as many miles as you do I am closer to 100 miles a day. Some days that I enjoy the drive time but then there are others when it would be nice to be home faster.
