Halfway through...

As I was looking at the assignments page for class I couldn't believe it was already our fourth week of class!

This class has been an eye opener for me!  I always considered myself semi-literate about the internet and technology available for use, but I can't believe the amount of new sites and tools I am finding.  I will definitely have to use some of these sites and tools in my classroom for the upcoming school year and further into the future.

I like the idea of Skype.  It's a great way to communicate with our classmates and others.  I've thought about opening up this tool to my students and making it available to them since I'm further away than most of their other teachers and it would save them a long distance phone call.

My favorite links!

I originally added a few different websites to my favorite links at the beginning of this week.  But, the more I thought about it the more I felt that these weren't truly my favorite links!

One of the websites I frequent...in fact its set as my homepage is facebook.  I must admit that I'm slightly addicted to this social networking site.  It's a great way to keep up on my family and friends both near and far away.  I check my brother and sister in-laws pages the most.  Mainly because of the updates they post on my nephew.  I mean who could resist a face like this?
My mother is on facebook as well.  She doesn't update her status so much...but it's nice to keep an eye on her :-).

Another link I posted is www.superteacherworksheets.com.  I have a student who is at a lower level then the others I have in my room.  This website proved helpful for some of the days I had to be gone second semester last year.  I was able to give this student an opportunity to pick what he wanted in his packet.  It served as a review for the days I had to be gone.  It proved to pretty helpful too when I was in a pinch for worksheet reviews with this student.

The last link I posted is a link to the home page of the school I teach at.  Our homepage offers some insight to some of the technology we use at NLS.  We're looking for more ways to

The start of summer classes.

My name is Sarah Hutsell.  I grew up in Waverly, NE.  Once graduating high school I attended Dana College.  While it may have taken longer then I wanted, I graduated in December of 2007.  I taught for a year at the middle school in Central City, NE.  After a year there I decided that Central City might not be what I was looking for.  So, I moved to Kearney with Mike (my boyfriend) and signed a year long lease for our apartment.

Soon after signing our lease I got another teaching job in Scotia, NE.  The wonderful town of Scotia is 75 miles from Kearney and yes...I drive it everyday during the school year.  To the surprise of some, I actually sort of enjoy the drive.  Once you get outside of Kearney, the scenery is absolutely beautiful!  The drive has also gives me about an hour and fifteen minutes to make a mental to-do list for things at school, it also allows me to calm down on the way home if something has happened at school.  The down side to this is that there are creatures and critters that run across the roads.  These creatures and critters have resulted in the loss of a mirror on my previous car (Steve) and the loss of my previous car (Steve).  Yes, I name my cars :-)...driving that far everyday you build a relationship with some pretty odd things!

The reason for starting this blog?  I'm currently taking a class called Using Internet Resources.  This is a class that is part of required coursework for my masters!!!  When I had orginally graduated from Dana I wasn't ever really sure I wanted to go back to school.  Something must have gone off in my brain because, I'm back in school and excited to do so!

This is Mike and I on Christmas Day 2010 :-)
